Ready for the weekend to start? Spend Saturday evening at Crow Street and discover the work of Kat Dowling, one of the artists in the 2019 International Women’s Day Exhibition. Kat describes herself as “a mum, hula hooper, and gamer” but it’s her painter’s taken you will get to see at Photopia Studio.

Yet another fantastic artist who took part in the current 2019 International Women’s Day Exhibition on display until 5th April is Jenny Fournier. She is committed to a #balanceforbetter and says: “In 2019 I’ll continue to employ techniques using tools that were once thought the domain of men. I’ll continue to encourage my art students to step outside the norms that media, commerce and society in general still seems to place on them.”

The gallery is closed today and tomorrow but there is plenty of time to visit the 2019 Women’s Day Exhibition next week, including during Crow Street’s Food & Music Fest on 30th March.
Today’s highlight is @felicia.lloyd, a familiar face in Gladstone’s art scene, Felicia is a curator, teacher and artist. She works in engaging the community in the arts through events, exhibitions, classes and workshops and a range of community-based art programs. Her work is held in private, public and corporate collections including the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum and the Queensland State Library. As always her featured work is intriguing, fresh and thought provoking.

It is an honour and a pleasure to have Christine Holden artwork exhibited as part of #balanceforbetter 2019 International Women’s Day Exhibition. Christine was asked how she was going to achieve #balanceforbetter in 2019. Here is what she answered:
“By making a conscious effort to maintain a balance in all things – a balance between work and play and a balance between my love/hate relationship with marine waste. Keeping an open mind to the ying and the yang of men and women, being mindful of gender equality from both perspectives where possible.”

#balanceforbetter 2019 International Women’s Day Exhibition is on until 5th April at @photopiastudio. Over the next few days, we will highlight the artists involved and what they have to say about their practice, starting with Andrea Pereira: “I started painting restlessly as a child and later in life developed into sculpture engaging sculptural techniques with drawing and paint, fiber work and digital for the making and process of a piece. My works tend to the uncanny side presenting the contrast of shapes, forms between chaos and order focusing on the visceral understanding of the world.”
