- A short presentation of the Mixtape, by William Debois, curator of the exhibition.Built around smartphone technology and social networking, VSCO is one of the most exciting and creative online communities of photographers, offering a refreshingly democratic way to create, edit and share images. This melting pot of creative energy, inspired William Debois, photographer and gallery owner in Gladstone, Queensland, to curate MIXTAPE, an exhibition of photographs by 6 creators from four continents, whom he follows on VSCO. Very much like carefully assembling a compilation of music for a friend, MIXTAPE is driven by a desire to share a love for photography, but also to make it accessible in a physical form, to an audience that would probably not get to see these images otherwise. The selected photographers give a kind of street level understanding of their world, that is raw and unflinching. These scenes, compositions, repetitions, the contrasts of moods and tones, can be enjoyed without any context or explanations. Part of the pleasure in MIXTAPE, is to try to work out the back story of each creator and their images. Find William on VSCO as williamdebois
